Frontier College is preparing to run math and literacy-based programs for elementary and high school students from October to April.
A little about the programs we are running this year:
- In-Person Math Clubs (in community school) is a program where students and volunteers play math games to enhance the skills of the learners in a fun and exciting way
- Virtual Reading Buddies is a program where learners and tutors meet online to do some reading work. You start as a large group to do a story, then go into break-out rooms with a single learner. The large group allows for a social aspect, as well as modeling good reading behaviour, while the one-to-one aspect allows each student to get the individualized reading support they need
- In-Person Homework Club & Virtual Homework Club are both programs where tutors and students meet (either online or at a community location) to work on homework together. When students don't have homework, it is a great time to help them with anything they may need a little extra help with at school.
- One to One Tutoring is a program where a tutor and student are paired and work on a one-to-one basis to assist the student with areas where they need some extra support.
As part of our screening and training process, you will need to start by filling out our Volunteer Inquiry Form here. This will begin an online file in our secure database; once I receive notification I will send you some more information from our system to fill out your application form.
Other steps included in our screening process include reference checks (we do call, so please ensure you have permission), online orientation, a knowledge check, and initial training. More information will come once your Inquiry Form is received.
