The volunteer patrollers of the Canadian Ski Patrol Algonquin Zone provide advanced first aid services for Adanac and Lively Ski Hills in the City of Greater Sudbury.
Volunteer ski patrollers are trained during the Fall training session. You MUST be a strong intermediate level ski or snowboarder and you MUST pass the First Aid exam, practical exam and on snow skills to become a patroller. Registration is September 8 and 9, drop in from 6 till 8 pm at Adanac Ski Chalet, 744 Beatrice Crescent, Sudbury. Advanced First Aid, CPR and AED training will be three weekends (October 4 & 5, October 18 & 19 and November 1 & 2, 2025). After field day (first aid scenerios) on November 22 and a written exam (November 24 or online), there is a practical test (November 26 or 27) of your abilities to assess, diagnose and treat first aid incidences. Then comes toboggan training. Once you can safely bring down a toboggan, you get your CSP jacket!!!! First time patrollers are always accompanied by an experienced ski patroller while patrolling. Costs
- $240 covers the cost of the training as well as your “bum bag” fully equipped with first aid materials. First aid materials can be re-stocked from the patrol room at the ski hills.
- Bursaries are available to select individuals to cover the cost of the first year.
- After your first year, the City of Greater Sudbury will pay for your re-certification if you patrol for 20 shifts (about 4 hours each so roughly 10 full days of patrolling each season).
- You must wear the CSP jacket which can be rented for $40 per year.
