GOAL:

Becoming a volunteer driver with the Children’s Aid Society of the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin  has a meaningful and positive impact on our community. We are currently in need of people like you who want to make a difference. Volunteers enrich and enhance the services we provide by working collaboratively with staff, foster parents and other volunteers. Volunteers often gain a sense of self-fulfillment knowing the positive impact they have on the lives of children, youth and families in our community.

DUTIES:

  • Provide transportation services to children, youth and families in need in the Sudbury and Manitoulin areas.

TIME COMMITMENT:

We appreciate your time and commitment to being a volunteer. That’s why we let you customize your schedule to best suit your availability. During the application process, we will ask that you fill out your desired assignments, and your preferred times to provide transportation services.  We are always looking for individuals who are committed to long term volunteering and who are dependable, punctual, and responsible. 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid "G" class driver's license
  • Clean driver's abstract
  • Ability to read a road map/GPS
  • Clean Vulnerable Sector Check

ORIENTATION AND TRAINING:

Before starting your journey as a volunteer driver, our Agency will provide you with Car Seat Training.  Further, the below training sessions are mandatory as part of becoming a volunteer driver:

  • AODA Training
  • Defusing Anger
  • Effects of Psychotropic Drugs
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Rainbow Backpacks
  • Safe Storage and Transportation of Meds

Although not every one of the abovementioned training sessions need to be completed prior to the commencement of providing transportation services, it is encouraged that you participate in the earliest available sessions after you start.  Our Learning department is able to provide a training calendar indicating the dates that these sessions will be offered.

EXPENSES:

Our Agency compensates volunteer drivers at a rate of $0.52/KM.  Further, in the event that travel outside of the district is required, volunteer drivers will qualify for certain expenses being reimbursed as per our Employee Travel Expenses Policy.  This policy will be made available to you as a volunteer driver.

SUPERVISION AND SUPPORT:

The volunteer driver will report to the HR Coordinator, as well as the applicable service supervisor.  These individuals will be available to provide supervision and support to volunteers where required.  Volunteer drivers will also have access to our building services team assistant for any immediate questions.  We will gladly provide support to our volunteers whenever it is requested.

SCREENING PROCESS:

Our Agency follows the below screening process for individuals who want to join us in the capacity of volunteer driver.  Further, we will gladly answer any questions that you may have regarding the screening process at the application stage.

  1. Submission of application package (accessible through this posting)
  2. Internal Record Check of the Child Protection Information Network (CPIN)
  3. Informal interview - Discussion of past volunteer experience, and the reason why the individual desires to become a volunteer with our Agency
  4. Reference checks

Once the above process is complete, we will move forward to the onboarding process, which requires volunteer drivers to sign the required Agency forms, and review relevant policies.
