Be the Difference on the Slopes
Join the Canadian Ski Patrol in Sudbury!
Imagine carving fresh snow, the crisp winter air on your face, knowing that you are part of the team that keeps your local ski hills safe. Imagine gaining real-life emergency response experience, building leadership skills, and becoming someone others rely on when it matters most.
This winter, the Canadian Ski Patrol (CSP) Algonquin Zone is inviting motivated, community-minded skiers and snowboarders to step into an unforgettable role as an On Snow First (OSF) Patroller at Adanac and Lively Ski Hills in the City of Greater Sudbury.
This is not just volunteering — it’s a pathway to becoming a full-fledged Canadian Ski Patroller.
What Is On Snow First (OSF)?
The On Snow First program is your opportunity to train and patrol this season, while preparing to complete full certification next year. As an OSF patroller, you won’t perform first aid yet, but you’ll gain hands-on experience in the heart of ski patrol operations. You’ll learn:
· Accident scene management
· Toboggan handling and transportation techniques
· Radio communication and protocol procedures
· How to assist at accident scenes and in the patrol room
You’ll work side-by-side with experienced patrollers, learning the skills normally taught after advanced first aid training — giving you a huge head start for next season.
Why Join?
✔ Ski or snowboard while you patrol and gain
confidence, leadership, and communication skills
✔ Build an outstanding resume
— ideal for careers in health care, policing, and firefighting
✔ Make real connections
and be part of a tight-knit, supportive team
✔ Serve your community
while doing something you love
After completing your Advanced First Aid course next fall, you’ll be ready to step immediately into the role of a fully certified patroller.
Flexible & Rewarding
Patrol shifts vary to fit different schedules — mornings, afternoons, evenings — from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Times and days are dependant on your availability. The season runs from late December through mid March.
Who Can Apply?
· 18 years or older and a good skier or snowboarder (equal to or better than average hill ability)
· Available for training and regular patrol shifts
· Willing to learn, help others, and work as part of a team
The fee of $160 covers the current winter season. When you enroll for the Advanced First Aid training next September, you will pay the remainder of the CSP fees (about $70). Ongoing expenses are minimal, with jacket rental currently at $40 per year.
