Sudbury Multicultural Folk Arts Association

Who We Are

The Sudbury Multicultural & Folks Arts Association (SMFAA) was formed in 1984 when two organizations, the Sudbury Folk Arts Council and Sudbury Regional Immigration Centre, came together with a shared commitment to welcoming and supporting newcomers. Today, as an umbrella organization representing more than 30 delegate groups and multicultural associations, our structure continues to ensure diverse voices are represented. Many of our board members and delegates were once newcomers themselves and bring lived experience, cultural insight, and a deep understanding of the settlement journey. Now active, engaged community members, they play a vital role in welcoming others, promoting inclusion and human rights, and helping the City of Greater Sudbury thrive as a vibrant, multicultural community.

What We Do

Our mission is to build bridges that help newcomers access community services, discover local resources, and build meaningful connections. We foster multicultural and cross‑cultural relationships, uphold strong values of community service, volunteerism, and human rights, and support efforts to eliminate racial discrimination. Through a welcoming and inclusive space, we help newcomers successfully integrate, contribute, and thrive—while strengthening multicultural understanding across our community.
