Rooted in a rich history of humanitarian service, SJA is a leader in first aid training, community health programs, and emergency response preparedness. Our MFRU embodies this mission by offering advanced first aid and medical support at local events, emergencies, and public gatherings. Open to individuals aged 18 and older, regardless of prior medical or health experience, the MFRU is committed to inclusivity and excellence. We provide comprehensive training to ensure every volunteer meets the high standards of care upheld by St. John Ambulance. As a community-focused group, we work under the guidance and support of SJA Canada to deliver life-saving services and promote health and safety. By joining our unit, volunteers become part of a nationwide network dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

What We Do

The St. John Ambulance (SJA) Medical First Responder Unit (MFRU) is a cornerstone of community health and safety, providing advanced first aid and medical support in a wide range of settings. From public gatherings and sporting events to recreational activities and emergency response during disasters, our highly trained members are prepared to deliver exceptional care. Equipped with advanced medical training, our responders go beyond basic first aid, administering oxygen, applying c-spine collars, monitoring vital signs, and offering additional medical interventions as needed. In the event of an injury, our teams act swiftly and professionally, ensuring prompt care and comfort. Each response involves a coordinated effort: a primary and secondary responder provide hands-on medical assistance while a scribe carefully documents the care provided and the patient's medical history, ensuring thorough and accurate support for every individual.
