Who We Are

OUR MISSION

We help people and communities in Canada and around the world in times of need and support them in strengthening their resilience.

OUR NETWORK

 The Canadian Red Cross Society is part of the largest humanitarian network in the world, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. This network includes the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (Federation) and 192 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies dedicated to improving the situation of the most vulnerable throughout the world.

OUR VISION

The Canadian Red Cross is the leading humanitarian organization through which people voluntarily demonstrate their caring for others in need.

OUR FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES

In 1965, the seven Fundamental Principles were adopted by the 20th International Conference. They were developed to link together the International Committee, Federation and National Societies. Our network is vast, but our approach is simple.

All Red Cross programs and activities are guided by the Fundamental Principles of Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. These principles allow us to provide help immediately to whoever needs it, wherever they are, whatever their race, political beliefs, religion, social status, or culture.

OUR VALUES

Our actions and decisions will be based upon:

- Humanitarian values, as expressed in our Fundamental Principles;

- Respect, dignity and inclusiveness;

- Integrity, accountability, effectiveness, and transparency, and adaptability;

- Quality and safety.

What We Do

The Canadian Red Cross is a leader in supporting older adults to remain living in their homes safely and with dignity through innovative and compassionate community health services. Canadian Red Cross Community Health and Wellness Services are focused on non-acute interventions that are proactive and solution-based to meet the changing needs of older adults who wish to stay at home as long as possible.

Our services are focused on promoting wellness and social inclusion, and we strive to look holistically at not only the needs of our clients, but also their family and caregivers. In our ongoing efforts to meet the needs of the clients we serve, we are constantly innovating and seeking out new partnerships that will improve access and coordination of our community health offerings.

A wide range of community support services are offered by the Red Cross to provide daily supports to older adults, vulnerable people, and their caregivers. We support our clients as they strive to maintain their quality of life and independence, and when possible support their active participation in society.

Many of our Community Support Services are delivered with the support of our team of dedicated staff and volunteers who are highly skilled in the delivery of services such as:

  • Seniors' Transportation,
  • Friendly calls program,
  • PATH (Priority Assistance to Transition Home) program
    • Community Connector Pilot Project
