The Volunteer Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for clients and visitors at our not-for-profit employment service. This role is key to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and professional environment, particularly for individuals from vulnerable populations. Volunteers provide front desk coverage on an as-needed basis when staff are unavailable, helping ensure smooth daily operations.

Responsibilities include greeting clients, providing general information about services, answering and directing phone calls, taking messages, receiving mail, and supporting basic reception duties. Volunteers are expected to maintain confidentiality and contribute to a respectful, accessible, and client-centered environment.

Willingness to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check required (cost covered by the organization).

This is a short-term, casual volunteer opportunity with the potential for ongoing involvement, depending on organizational needs. Volunteers provide coverage during staff absences such as training or out-of-office periods.

This position will be entirely within the Spark office. If the volunteer requires a bus or Gova pass, this will be provided; if the volunteer is using their personal vehicle, mileage reimbursement will be provided. This role is best suited to someone who loves talking to people, is good communicating over the phone, is organized, has good time-management skills, and creates a friendly welcoming environment for everyone. Speaking French an asset.

The Volunteer Mentor provides guidance and peer-based support to program participants who are newly employed or preparing to enter the workforce. Drawing on their own lived and professional experience, mentors help participants navigate workplace expectations, build confidence, and sustain long-term employment.

The volunteer will work within the Spark office as well as at the client's placement location. This position requires an English speaker, preferably French bilingual.

This role is best suited for someone who enjoys 1-1 interaction, relationship building, teaching, and collaboration. This role translates to Spark’s overall mission very closely as this volunteer will be directly helping jobseekers successfully complete their placement opportunities, learn key job retention skills, and skills related to obtaining employment opportunities.

If a bus or Gova pass is required it will be provided, if the volunteer is using a personal vehicle mileage reimbursement will be provided. Reimbursement will also be provided to volunteers for their required Vulnerable Sector Check. Volunteers will also be required to complete orientation and skills training. 

The Volunteer Client Coach supports clients in developing practical job readiness skills through individualized or small group sessions. This may include resume support, job search tools, industry specific support, and general employability skills.

The volunteer will be working within the Spark office. This role is best suited to someone who enjoys 1-1 support, is patient, enjoys teaching, helping others, and has good attention to detail. The volunteer will need to have basic computer skills, the ability to help write resumes and cover letters, and/or the ability to assist in the creation and editing of LinkedIn profiles. 

If bus or Gova passes are required they can be provided, if the volunteer is using their personal vehicle mileage reimbursement can also be provided. Volunteers will be required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check which will be reimbursed, they will also have to complete orientation. This position requires an English speaker, preferably French bilingual.  

This role directly translates to Spark’s overall mission because the volunteers will be providing individualized learning solutions and preparing the clients for the work force.

The Volunteer administrative assistant will support and relieve administrative duties from reception, marketing, and other staff by building workbooks, putting pages together, filing, and organizing. The volunteer will work out of the Spark office.

This position requires an English speaker. The role is best suited for someone who enjoys independent work, detail-oriented tasks, mentally and physically light tasks, more flexibility, and a calm environment.

If a bus or Gova pass is required it will be provided, if the volunteer is using a personal vehicle mileage reimbursement will be provided. This position does not require the volunteer to receive a Vulnerable Sector Check, as they will not interact with clients or visitors directly.

This role translates to Spark’s overall mission very closely as this volunteer will be directly helping staff with daily tasks and relieving stress and pressure on them, so they can better support their clients.

The Event Volunteer will assist in setup, tear down, manning booths at events and answering public questions about Spark’s services. Volunteers will represent Spark in ways that aligns with the organization’s vision, mission, and values.

Training will be provided based on the volunteers needs. This role directly translates to Spark’s overall mission because it acts as an outreach and promotion for our services to reach as many people within our community as possible.

The location of this position can be anywhere in the vicinity of Greater Sudbury. If a bus or GOVA bus pass is required it will be provided, if the volunteer uses their personal vehicle mileage reimbursement will be provided. Reimbursement will be provided to every volunteer for their required Vulnerable Sector Check. The volunteers will be required to participate in orientation.
