This winter, the Canadian Ski Patrol (CSP) Algonquin Zone is inviting motivated, community-minded skiers and snowboarders to step into an unforgettable role as an On Snow First (OSF) Patroller at Adanac and Lively Ski Hills in the City of Greater Sudbury. This is not just volunteering — it’s a pathway to becoming a full-fledged Canadian Ski Patroller. What Is On Snow First (OSF)?The On Snow First program is your opportunity to train and patrol this season, while preparing to complete full certification next year. As an OSF patroller, you won’t perform first aid yet, but you’ll gain hands-on experience in the heart of ski patrol operations. You’ll learn: · Accident scene management · Toboggan handling and transportation techniques · Radio communication and protocol procedures · How to assist at accident scenes and in the patrol room You’ll work side-by-side with experienced patrollers, learning the skills normally taught after advanced first aid training — giving you a huge head start for next season. confidence, leadership, and communication skills After completing your Advanced First Aid course next fall, you’ll be ready to step immediately into the role of a fully certified patroller. Flexible & RewardingPatrol shifts vary to fit different schedules — mornings, afternoons, evenings — from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Times and days are dependant on your availability. The season runs from late December through mid March. Who Can Apply?· 18 years or older and a good skier or snowboarder (equal to or better than average hill ability) · Available for training and regular patrol shifts · Willing to learn, help others, and work as part of a team The fee of $160 covers the current winter season. When you enroll for the Advanced First Aid training next September, you will pay the remainder of the CSP fees (about $70). Ongoing expenses are minimal, with jacket rental currently at $40 per year. You MUST be a strong intermediate level ski or snowboarder and you MUST pass the First Aid exam, practical exam and on snow skills to become a patroller. Registration is September 8 and 9, drop in from 6 till 8 pm at Adanac Ski Chalet, 744 Beatrice Crescent, Sudbury. Advanced First Aid, CPR and AED training will be three weekends (October 4 & 5, October 18 & 19 and November 1 & 2, 2025). After field day (first aid scenerios) on November 22 and a written exam (November 24 or online), there is a practical test (November 26 or 27) of your abilities to assess, diagnose and treat first aid incidences. Then comes toboggan training. Once you can safely bring down a toboggan, you get your CSP jacket!!!! First time patrollers are always accompanied by an experienced ski patroller while patrolling. We also hope that patrollers will help at the Ski Swap November 7 to 9. Please feel free to share the dates for the Ski Swap with friends and family and even mild acquaintances!
