Join Our Volunteer Board of Directors We are seeking passionate, committed individuals to join our volunteer Board of Directors and help guide the future of our organization. As a Board member, you will play an important role in providing strategic leadership, governance, and oversight to support our mission and strengthen the communities we serve. Who We Are Looking For We welcome applications from individuals with diverse skills, experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. As part of our commitment to building a Board that reflects the communities we serve, we are particularly interested in hearing from: Individuals living in regions currently underrepresented on our Board; particularly in the Manitoulin, Nipissing-Parry Sound or Cochrane-Timiskaming Districts Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) Members of equity-deserving and underrepresented communities Individuals with lived or living experience related to the services and supports provided by our organization People with experience in governance, finance, legal affairs, community development, health and social services, fundraising, advocacy, communications, or other relevant fieldsNo previous Board experience is required. We value lived experience, community leadership, and a commitment to our mission alongside professional expertise. Board Member Responsibilities Board members are expected to: Attend and actively participate in Board meetings and committee work Contribute to strategic planning and organizational governance Support the organization's mission, values, and long-term sustainability Act as ambassadors for the organization within their communities and networks Uphold fiduciary and legal responsibilities as a director Make an annual personal financial contribution to the organization at a level that is meaningful to them and demonstrates commitment to our mission. Support fundraising and resource development efforts by participating in events, making introductions to potential donors or partners, advocating for the organization within their networks, and helping to cultivate a culture of philanthropy.Time Commitment Board members typically attend regular Board and committee meetings throughout the year and may participate in special projects, and organizational events. Volunteer: Help Sudburians File Their Taxes!EXPERIENCED TAX PREPARERS WANTED! Do you have a background in finance and an interest in the social services sector? If so, United Way Centraide North East Ontario is looking for you!
• Be aware of, understand and adhere to all relevant policies including code of conduct, confidentiality, conflict of interest, etc. • Present a GSPS Criminal Record Check (CPIC – Level 1) prior to volunteering • Register online as a volunteer with CRA, and apply for/renew your personal E-file number, and Rep-ID (if applicable) • Tax filer role: complete, to the best of your abilities, and per operating standards, tax returns for clients using provided software and laptops, 3 years Canadian tax filing experience required. • Telephone tax preparers are needed for the upcoming 2026 season, prepare taxes in the comfort of your own home • Return the completed return and other personal documents to the client, ensure client signs appropriate documents/authorizes appropriately for virtual services • Treat clients, staff, and other volunteers with respect • Decline any offers of monetary reward for your services (donations to UWCNEO accepted) • Maintain an attitude that reflects positively on the CVIT Program, United Way and CRA What We Look For: • You have: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a background in finance or tax preparation (valid qualifications/accreditation i.e., CFP, CPA, RFP, CFA, PFP an asset), experience completing Canadian tax returns, data entry skills • You are: Analytical, detail-oriented, tech-savvy (G-Suite), and take direction well
• Mandatory training & onboarding session (virtual) – 1 hour • The CVIT Program will run through tax season (March 1-April 30), with the possibility of extension through to the end of January working from office or remotely • Commitment of 4-8 hours per week would be appreciated during peak season Supervision: • CVIT Volunteers will report directly to the Program Coordinator • Position is offered both in-person & remotely • Volunteer may work at in-person tax clinics held throughout the City and surrounding area (materials provided) • Volunteer may work from home (own phone, computer & internet) to complete virtual appointments • Orientation is provided by the Program Coordinator • Tax preparation/software training is offered by CRA & other experienced CVIT volunteers Why Volunteer with United Way? • You’re supporting front-line, critical services in your community • You’re gaining new knowledge, and improving your existing skills • You’re recognized and celebrated with a special event each year • You’re working with a great team!
