Community Action Networks (CANs) are City of Greater Sudbury citizen volunteer groups who want to make a difference in their community. CANs work on engaging and empowering residents in their neighbourhood by:
- holding in-person and online meetings, discussions, and community engagement opportunities
- running and partnering in projects and activities to make our neighbourhood healthy and vibrant
CANs are non-profit and receive support from the City of Greater Sudbury, including $2,500 a year for operational expenses. We work closely with the City of Greater Sudbury and with our City Councillor to:
- identify community needs and priorities
- provide input on community issues and help resolve them
- plan and run projects and activities at the community level
- partner and collaborate with other community groups and local stakeholders to enhance the quality of life of all of our residents
CANs are run by an elected Executive and meetings are open to everyone in the community. Anyone who lives or owns property or a business in the CAN’s area can be a member of the CAN and vote at the yearly elections and on CAN decisions.
